Most Common Causes for Cellulite

Most Common Causes for Cellulite

Cellulite is one of the biggest problems in women’s history. Women have been trying to find a way to solve this puzzle and find relief from it for many, many years.

The cottage cheese or orange peel or whatever you call it is not a very attractive look for us girls. The biggest problem is when the summer season is approaching.

We go on a vacation and the sun is shining, the smell of seawater, the beach in front of us and our biggest nightmare – bikinis.

How are we supposed to wear bikinis on a sunny day at the beach with our skin looking all bumpy?

And we decide not to go to the beach or even worse, we decide to go with our clothes on, while we watch all those happy people careless in the water.

How can we not hate cellulite? It is so stubborn and hard to lose that no matter what we do, it all seems hopeless.

In simple and understandable words, cellulite represents the fat stored in our cells that are deep underneath our skin.

Those cells push the connective tissues or collagen fibers. These collagen fibers can loosen up and the fat cells will start pushing their walls.

The connective tissues pull down and the fat cells push up and there you have it – cellulite. It makes sense once you understand it.

Imagine this like some kind of balloon or some stuffed animal that is wrapped tight in a net. There are parts that stick out through the net holes. These bumps are the cellulite.

There have been many guesses about the subject of cellulite causes. Some people claim that it is genetics’ fault, others that it is not. So we can’t help but wonder, what is the real cause of cellulite?

The first and most obvious cause is considered to be the fact that you are a woman and woman are the ones who mostly suffer from cellulite.

The reason for this is because in men, the connective tissues are aligned diagonally and there is no creation of fat cells pressure, while in women these connective tissues are vertical which leads the fat cells to bump upwards.

Another reason is genetics. Many researchers have shown that the tendency to have cellulite at one point of your life has much to do with genes.

For example, if your mother suffers from cellulite there is a possibility that you two are going to have cellulite.

The buttocks, thighs and the abdomen are the parts that are the most affected by cellulite in women.

If you wear tight underwear or tight jeans or in general clothes that are too tight in the middle body area and they leave marks after you take them off, this can also be a cause for cellulite.

Tight clothes and underwear stop the blood circulation in that part and when the blood circulation is stopped there’s no oxygen going into the connective tissues and other cells.

Increased estrogen levels can also be the cause of cellulite. And this is also typical for women. Women have more estrogen than men do. Sorry girls!

Cellulite is most likely to appear in women who have high levels of estrogen. In order to normalize your estrogen levels, avoid eating too much processed food, junk food, and soy products.

Lack of testosterone is another cause of cellulite and yet another reason why girls are a target for cellulite.

Testosterone is an amazing hormone for burning fat, but unfortunately, we women lack testosterone, while men are full of it.

what causes cellulite

The aging process is another thing that we really can’t avoid much. As we grow older, the collagen connective tissues start to loosen up and the fat cells can push this tissue more easily.

That’s why as we grow older cellulite starts to become more visible. The skin loses its natural elasticity and collagen and also gets thinner.

However, there’s not much we can do about this except taking care of our skin and body as we did always.

Changes in hormone levels can also be a cause for cellulite. For instance, pregnant women can develop cellulite because they go through hormonal changes.

Fast and often dieting can also be a potential cause for developing cellulite.

Researchers show that women who are often on a diet or that experience yo-yo effects from diets have a tendency to develop cellulite.

So be careful the next time you decide to start a diet!

  2. This is another great post. Thank you. I have heard about cellulite causes for years and never knew that wearing clothes that are too tight could be a cause for concern. Huh. So, most of the factors are outside of my control, but this and maintaining my weight seem to be areas that I can control, right? Do you have any other advice of how to prevent future cellulite? THANK YOU! 🙂

    • I know right?! I guess it’s time to do a little spring cleaning, get rid of some of those tighter shirts and pants! I have actually experienced rapid weight loss and it has helped me reduce the amount of cellulite in my body, so yes that’s definitely one way to keep it in check Gretchen!
