Cellulite

The Rare Case of Cellulite in Men Explained

Defined in proper terms, cellulite is a condition that appears as a dimpled, orange peel-like skin and it happens when that fat that is stored in the cells presses the connective tissue upwards and that’s why the skin looks bumpy like that.

In the minds of many people, the term cellulite is immediately connected to women. And there’s a good reason why this is so.

Women are the group that is most likely to be affected by cellulite. In fact, studies have shown that 90% of women do suffer from the appearance of cellulite.

In men, cellulite is less likely to happen, but of course – not impossible. There are men who also have cellulite skin. However, this number is much smaller than the ones who don’t.

Have you ever wondered why men have a smaller tendency to develop cellulite?

Why are men less likely to have cellulite?

Women may be luckier than men in many areas, but when it comes to cellulite, they are definitely losing the battle. Cellulite appears less in men for various different reasons.

Hormone estrogen

This is a hormone that men have in much smaller amounts than women. And as you might already know, estrogen holds one part of the blame for the creation of cellulite.

It stimulates the storing of fat into the cells in the body. And because men have very little of this hormone, they are not as much affected by cellulite as women are.

Hormone testosterone

Opposite of estrogen, testosterone is a hormone that burns fat and aids the creation of muscles. This hormone is a male hormone and women have very little of it.

That’s another reason why men are not so affected by cellulite but can build more muscles than women.

The Pattern of the Connective Tissue

The connective tissues in women are arranged vertically which is perfect for the fat cells to bulge upwards, while in men these connective tissues are arranged diagonally crisscrossed which is why they can hardly bulge out.

The Thickness of the Skin

Even if men do develop some stage of cellulite, it does not show in skin appearance because men usually have thicker skin than women.

Women’s outer layer of skin is much thinner and that’s why even the lightest form of cellulite can be seen.

Areas Affected By Cellulite in Men

The areas in which cellulite usually appears are slightly different in men than in women.

In almost all men the fat storage (cellulite) happens in the middle section of the body – the abdomen and the waist, while in women the hips, buttocks, and thighs are more affected.

The abdomen and stomach area in men is the most exposed to storing fat. That’s why most of the men that have a few pounds more, their stomachs and waist parts are most noticeable.

How Can Men Get Rid of Cellulite

The whole process and treatment of reducing cellulite in men are similar to the women’s, with the advantage being the fact that men can get rid of it more quickly and easily.

There are several existing options and treatments available. Which one of these you choose depends on the severity of your cellulite condition as well as of the time, effort and money you are willing to spend.

If you are a man suffering from cellulite appearance, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Although more rarely, cellulite in men can be a totally normal thing to happen.

Most of the men are not even aware of the fact that they have cellulite. And because the cellulite in men is mostly stored in the abdomen, this is a pretty normal thing and a common picture we see every day.

You should use the advantage that you are a man and you are able to get rid of cellulite faster and start doing something to improve.

Here are all the options available for men who wish to reduce cellulite:

Healthy Diet

Eating the right thing is the most effective way to lose cellulite. A diet that is suitable for reducing cellulite should contain: vitamins (fruits and vegetables), antioxidants (berries), fiber-rich foods, low-fat products, lean proteins (from lean meats) and omega 3 fatty acids; and should avoid: fatty foods, processed foods, salty foods, high calorie foods, high carbohydrate foods, animal fat.

Avoid Toxins

Some toxins like those in alcohol and cigarettes should be avoided if you wish to reduce the cellulite. Toxins are said to be attracted to cells and creating more cellulite.

Water

Plenty of water is important for getting rid of cellulite. The water will help your body remove the toxins and will speed up the burning of calories. These two things are crucial to losing the bumpy skin.

Exercising

Regular exercises are important for your overall body condition, including of course cellulite. Because fat in men is mostly stored in the abdomen, this is the area that you’re going to target.

When exercising with the purpose of losing cellulite, do not focus only on cardio exercises.

Strength, cardio, and stretching exercises are three important parts of losing cellulite. Every one of these exercises that focuses on your abdomen is excellent and good for doing.

Massages and Exfoliators

We know you are a man, but if you suffer from cellulite you should also be doing massages or at least exfoliations.

A simple anti-cellulite massage or an exfoliation treatment is very affordable and can be an effective way to speed up the process of losing cellulite.

Creams

If you listen to women, most of them will say that creams are not such a good solution and a complete waste of money. However, whether you choose to try these or not is up to you.

Other treatments

Most men do not usually have that severe condition in order to try some other more invasive procedures.

However, if you do decide so, there are many laser procedures as well as surgical procedures that might cost some more money, but provide amazingly successful results.

  1. My nephew wasn’t that impressed when he found out that cellulite is a problem of men as much as it is women’s. I was able to explain to him that as much as he will eat the right things, avoid alcohol, cigarettes, drink plenty of water and exercise regularly he will be fine. He wants to keep it natural and I am glad I found the tools to help him with here.

  2. It is definitely genetic, and it is definitely not limited to those that are overweight! The structure of connective tissues explains the gender difference.

  3. I believe it will be found to be a connective tissue disease.

  4. I am a 35-year-old man and I suffer from cellulite in my hips and glutes since I was 11 years old knowing that I used to be a fat boy.
I’ve tried everything to get rid of this disgusting fact but nothing worked knowing that I do lots of sports and that my upper body is skinny.
I wish someone can find me a solution.

    • I can definitely relate and feel for you…..my experience exactly. The only thing that cured… helped me….high dosage of testosterone injections of 500 mg a week or more, eliminating all red meat, eating fruits veggies and brown rice.. avacado, sweet potatoes, tuna, chicken and an antibiotic estrogen like arimidex or aromasin in higher doses… basically double than doses you’ll see online. Estrogen gone, cellulite gone….go by how you feel, not by numbers. If red blood cells get too high from high doses of testosterone…donate blood. Don’t take any of what I’m telling you as medical advice just from one person that can relate to another this is just a suggestion and you have to do your research without taking my word for it as your body May react differently than mine.
